Guwahati, December 5, 2019:

Peasant leader from Assam Akhil Gogoi, has opined that the the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which is the largest regional party in the state, is all set for its doom after staying silent over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Speaking to Inside Northeast, Gogoi said that the Asom Gana Parishad has committed harakiri in Assam, by not voicing out against the Citizenship Bill. "I think the AGP is gone forever in Assam, because they are in the hands of saffron forces, so they will never come (to power), It is a gone case", Gogoi said.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) firebrand also stated that once the Bill is passed in Assam, it will be final nail in the coffin for the BJP and its ideological allies, the RSS, in the State. "If the Bill is granted, the BJP will become the enemy of the Assamese people", Gogoi asserted.

Gogoi further exhorted the indigenous organizations to come out onto the streets to voice their opposition to the controversial Bill.

It may be mentioned here that many indigenous organizations and student bodies across the Northeast are continually protesting against the Bill, which seeks to grant citizenship to non-Muslim migrants from neighboring countries on the grounds of 'religious persecution'.
