SILCHAR: One person has been killed after a train rammed into an auto van in an unauthorised railway crossing while entering the Nilambazar Station under Karimganj district in Assam yesterday.
The train was identified as Agartala Express special (05664).
The deceased person has been identified as the driver of the auto van.
According to report, the accident occurred when the train was entering the Nilambazar station on proper signal and suddenly the auto van attempted to cross the track through the unauthorised track-crossing.
However, no injuries of passengers have been reported.
Railway officials reached the spot immediately after receiving information about the incident.
An FIR has been lodged against the owner of the auto van for trespassing of railway tracks, which is a punishable offence under section 147 (i) of the Indian Railways Act.
The railway authority, in consultation with the State Government authorities, is said to have closed the unauthorised track-crossing in that area for road vehicle movement by erecting posts for the protection of common people.
However, some miscreants uprooted the blockades for trespassing.
Railway authority appealed to the common people to avoid trespassing of railway track as it is extremely dangerous and can result in not only the death of road users but also train accidents.
