Assam: 12-Hour 'Bandh' in Protest of UTC Formation on Jan 27

Guwahati, January 26, 2020:

Several organizations have called for a 12-hour bandh on January 27 to protest against the formation of Union Territory by the state and central governments.

All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU), All BTC Minority Students' Union and All Assam Nath Jogi Students’ Union have called for the Bandh on Monday. The members have demanded that Bodoland Territorial Council should not be declared as a Union Territory.

All Assam Adivasi Students’ Union along with Kalita and other indigenous organizations have extended their support to the 12-Hour strike on January 27.

It may be mentioned here that there have been apprehensions regarding the formation of BTC as a Union Territory although Assam Minister recently informed that there would be no UT formed within Assam.

The matter has come to light amid the ongoing peace talks between the Centre and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) leaders. The latter had been camping in New Delhi to conclude the signing of the peace talks.
