Assam: 15,000 Primary Schools Devastated by Floods

Guwahati, July 29, 2019:

In a severe setback to the educational infrastructure in the State of Assam, as many as 15,000 LP schools have been damaged by the devastating floods in the State.

This info was revealed by the All Assam Primary Teachers' Association while addressing the Press at the Guwahati on Sunday.

The teacher's association alleged that lakhs of students across the state have been affected because of the fury of the floods in the State.

Moreover, the teachers' organization has demanded that the schools be rebuilt and remunerations be handed out within the next 3 months. Meanwhile, the teachers' union has also urged the Central as well as State Governments to clarify their stand regarding the regularization of jobs for the TET teachers.                                                                                                                                                                                                          Speaking to Inside Northeast, TET teacher Leknath Sharma, who teaches Primary School students, says "Many schools are damaged each year. All students lose their textbooks and have to study without texts for half-a-year. Many teachers are upset because of the devastation caused by floods. It is a manner great sorrow for educators across the State."
