Assam: 24 Workers from Chirang Stranded in Chennai Seek Help from Govt

Guwahati, April 11, 2020:

Around 24 workers from Chirang, Assam are stuck in Chennai’s Kanchipuram since March 24 and they have sought help from the Government to survive the lockdown period.
“We have been staying at home following the lockdown. We came here for work. All of us work with the BHM company. Since March 24, due to coronavirus we are stuck here. We have not received any help from the company or the Government. There is no ration left, we have no money. We are facing great difficulty,” said Mimonol Brahma, one of the workers.

He added that all of them look forward to the lift of the curfew so that on April 16, they can return to their respective homes in Assam.

Daily wage laborers or the ones living hand-to-mouth are the worst hit during the lockdown. Their very base, their income source, their workplace are shuttered. With the States dwelling on extending the lockdown for another two weeks at least leaves them with no option but to seek help.
