Assam: 29 districts reeling under floodwater, death toll rises to 44

A total of 44 people have died in the ravaging deluge that has continued wreaking havoc across Assam. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 3,951 villages across 29 districts in the state are reeling under floodwater.

A total of 30,77,543 people and 1,75,005 hectares cropland have been adversely affected so far in the flood.

Several rivers including the mighty Brahmaputra in different parts of Assam are flowing above danger level, causing floods and consequently leaving thousands of families homeless.

The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neematighat in Jorhat and Dhubri. Jia Dharali at NT Road Crossing and Kopili at Nagaon and Dhansiri at Numaligarh.

As per the latest data, the flood-affected districts are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Chirang,  Udalguri, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, West Karbi-Anglong, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar and Charaideo.

Meanwhile, 361 relief camps have been installed. In the relief camps, there are so far 69,801 people.

Deaths: Recently, 4 dead in Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon, Barpeta and Sivasagar. Earlier, 1 more death in Barpeta. Earlier, 1 more death in Dehmaji. 1 death in Raha. 1 more death in Mayong and Doomdoma. 1 more death in Athani. 1 death in Matia. 6 new deaths, with 1 in Chapar, 1 in Kaliabor, 3 in Baghbar and Sathebari and 1 in Tihu. 2 new deaths in Sarupeta and 1 in Dibrugarh. 4 deaths were announced on 29th June. 2 more deaths in Udalguri and Jonai, Assam. 2 deaths in Goalpara circle taking the death toll to 44. The total number of deaths from landslides is 24.
