Assam: 3-time former CM Tarun Gogoi being interred with Full State Honours

GUWAHATI: Assam today bid adieu to Tarun Gogoi, a 3-time former Chief Minister who died on Monday due to COVID-related complications, with full state honours. A host of leaders -- including Assam CM Sarbanda Sonowal -- are present at the Navagraha Crematorium where the mortal remains of the veteran are being interred.

The mortal remains of the former Chief minister late Tarun Gogoi reached Navagraha crematorium where the last rites are being performed in the presence of his near and dear ones. Son Gaurav will be performing the last rites.

It is pertinent to mention that the Assam government has declared a half-holiday on Thursday as a mark of respect for the three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as he is being interred today.

According to a government order, the state government, semi-government offices, public sector undertakings, corporations, boards and educational institutions will remain closed from 1 pm on Thursday. Gogoi will be cremated with full state honours on November 26.

Gogoi’s well wishers paid their last respects to the political stalwart as the procession snaked across the streets of a heavily crowded Guwahati as scores upon scores poured out of their houses to pay their respects to the man who immortalized the phrase “baad dia he” (just leave it).
