Dibrugarh, December 29, 2019:

The 244 field regiment of the Indian Army has apprehended three ultras belonging to the independent faction of the United Liberation Front of Axom (or ULFA-I) in Dibrugarh district of Assam, and handed them over to the Namrup Police station authorities.

The three cadres of the militant outfit were apprehended at the Namrup Sonari Tiniali that falls under the Namrup Police Station.

The cadres have been identified as Rantu Sonowal (from Dibrugarh), Vidyut Chiringia (from Naharkatia), and Jishu Borah (from Karbi Anglong).

A .22 pistol, 2 rounds of live ammunition, a magazine, two ULFA flags and three mobile phone handsets have been recovered from the possession of the ULFA (I) cadres.

A case has been registered vide Namrup ps case no. 159/ 2019 u/s 120(B)/121/122/384/387 IPC R/W Sec 25(I)(A) Arms Act, R/W Sec 10/13 UA (P) Act in this regard.

Meanwhile, the cadres are being interrogated.

In an earlier incident, a six-member team residing in Bordumsa had secretly been preparing to join the ranks of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent).

After getting information about their designs, the authorities nabbed all six of the youths who had been planning to join the banned militant outfit.

Somewhat worryingly, it has come to light that all 6 of the youths are below 16 years of age: meaning they are all minors.

Presently, the minors are being held at the Bordumsa Police Station. Case number 79/19 has been registered against the errant youths at the Bordumsa Police Station.

It may be mentioned here that the youths hail from Kujupathar, Miholiritu, and Ritu Kothaguri, all falling under the Bordumsa Police Station. This information has created sensation in the little Tinsukia town, with the locals expressing great surprise that something like this has been going on right underneath their noses.
