DIPHU: In a tragic incident reported from Karbi Anglong district of Assam, at least 4 people were killed when two vehicles collided head-on in Karbi Anglong's Manja. A bus and a tanker collided on the National Highway-37 in the Karbi Anglong road accident around 8.30 am, leaving both vehicles in a badly damaged state.

"Today at 8.30 am an accident took place at Mohongdijuwa, Manja over National Highway 36 where head on coalition took between AS 21 C 4996 TATA ULTRA coming from Dimapur to Hojai which knocked down one Mahindra AS 14 C 6713 oil tanker mini truck while the bus tried to overtake one truck and knocked the oil tanker coming from Natun Basti," a police official said.

Jabed Ali and Dharmendra Das, both aged 32, and a third person whose identity is yet to be ascertained, died on the spot. One person who was shifted to a nearby hospital has also passed away and two persons are currently in "severe condition", according to official reports.

Police have said that the situation has now returned to "normal" in the region.

According to reports, eyewitnesses said that the bus driver responsible for the accident fled the scene after the mishap. Some passengers, who were injured in the accident, were rescued by locals, reports said.
