Assam: 40-year old dies after trying to escape quarantine

A 40-year old man in Assam has died from head injuries after trying to flee from a quarantine centre on knowing that he was tested from coronavirus. The deceased had travel history from Odisha and was lodged under a make-shift facility in his own village in Bongaigaon.

The deceased and one other person had tested Covid-19 positive on Tuesday. He was informed about it and an ambulance was sent to transfer both these patients to a hospital.

As per a local source, the man tried to escape by giving an excuse when the ambulance. Following which, he tried to climb the wall. In that, he slipped and sustained severe head injuries.

He was immediately shifted to the medical college hospital in neighbouring Barpeta district, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). He died on Thursday.

The death won't be counted as a covid19. His last rites were performed at his native village in Bongaigaon district on Thursday, as per the central government’s strict guidelines of disposing of bodies of Covid-19 patients.

Bongaigaon district has recorded 65 Covid-19 positive cases and it also recorded the initial cases of non-travel history corona.

Assam so far nears 5000 corona positive cases. Of the 4904 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 2044 are active COVID-19 cases and 2848 have been cured and discharged while 9 died due to the infection in the state so far.

Assam has crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020. It recorded 210 cases on June 18th.

India has crossed 2 lakh-mark in terms of corona positives on June 3rd. As on June 19th, the country currently has 367K confirmed COVID-19 cases, 163248 active cases with 204710 cured and discharged. The total number of deaths is 12573.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 5 thousand deaths. It has recorded 120504 corona cases with 60838 cured, 5751 deaths, and 53915 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 49979 cases with 21341 cured, 1969 deaths, and 26669 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 52334 positive cases with 28641 cured, 625 deaths 23068 active cases. Gujarat with 25601 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 17819 have been cured, 1591 deaths, and 6191 active cases.
