Assam: 46th Karbi Youth Festival From Feb 15-19, 5,000 Artists to Participate

The 46th Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) is just two days away and preparations are underway for a grand celebration of ethnic diversity of the Karbi tribe of Assam from February 15-19.

The Karbi Youth Festival is one of the biggest and oldest ethnic festivals of the Northeast region, which celebrates the Karbi culture. Every year from February 15 to 19, Taralangso, situated at the outskirts of Diphu town in the state of Assam, comes alive resounding with the celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival (KYF).

The preparations for the 46th edition of the KYF is almost complete as far as the arrangement for the event is concerned. All the five performances stage are ready, namely Longmirjeng Achetai Open Stage, Singmirjeng Achetai Stage, Ru-Semsonsing Ingti Open Stage, Longbi Chedu open stage and the procession ground. Just a few stalls are yet to come up and once the vendors are ready, the Karbi Youth Festival will be ready for the five-day extravaganza.

"90 percent preparations are complete. Under the leadership of Karbi Cultural Society, around 5000 artists will be participating in the KYF this year. KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang will also be attending the Festival. Karbi kings, Karbi organizations and more importantly, Norway-based Elizabeth Meadow, who had propagated Karbi culture in the global platform, have also confirmed their participation," said one of the organizers.

The reception committee of KYF comprises of President Mongalsing Timung EM Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), and General Secretary Dorsing Ronghang MAC KAAC.

It may be mentioned here that started in the early 80’s, the Karbi Youth Festival is gradually making a limelight into the world of cultural ethnicity. This tribal folk festival showcases the folk culture of the Karbi tribe dwelling in the various Northeastern states of India.
