Diphu, January 19, 2019:

Karbi Anglong locals on Sunday staged a massive protest against the amendment of the Citizenship Act at Bithung Rengthama Constituency in Assam, which is the home Constituency of Karbi Anglong CEM Tuliram Ronghang.

On January 18, more than 500 plus youths staged a torch rally at Bithung in protest against the allegedly "unconstitutional" CAA.

The youths raised slogans decrying the ruling BJP regime, and yelled out their desire for "justice".

Even through the tribal areas in Karbi Anglong in Assam have been exempted from the purview of the CAA, the people in the area have been continually protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

On January 23, the ‘Sanmilita Sangram Parishad’, a regional body organised a massive protest against the Centre’s move to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in Assam’s Karbi Anglong.

The aim of the Parishad is to bring together the people of the Northeast region and provide a common platform, through which they can stand against the CAA and protect the identity, culture and rights of the indigenous people.

The Convener of the newly formed Parishad, Monjit Mahanta and General Secretary and Adviser, Anup Chetia were also present during the Karbi Anglong.

The streets of Assam for the last one month echoed once again with the immortal tunes of late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s songs, played by the anti-CAA movement. Songs that shriek and reveal the spirit of the land, its people and their struggles.
