GUWAHATI: The Air Traffic Control (ATC) Officers at LGBI Airport, Guwahati today celebrated the International Day of The Air Traffic Controller to mark the 60th anniversary of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Association (IFATCA).

ATC Guild (I) NER organised an event in the presence of Regional Executive Director (NER) and attended by the ATC officers, HODs of various departments in AAI, Chief Airport Officer of AGIAL, the representatives of all other stakeholders (Airlines, CISF, IMD etc).

The Air Traffic Controllers around the world guide well over 1,00,000 aircraft safely to their destination while working round the clock behind the scenes of normal airport operations. Recently, in the shadow of Covid-19 pandemic, they work as the COVID warriors and put an immense effort to ensure the movement of the vaccines across the country in a timely manner.

Shri Ravi Kant, Regional Executive Director (NER) appreciated the efforts put in by the ATCs who perform with utmost dedication and sincerity even in the most adverse situations. "ATC is an essential key to the safety of aviation. The system cannot function without them. Despite having an acute shortage of trained professionals, they are doing a wonderful job on 24 x 7 basis. Despite having high stress of zero-error tolerance, they run a wonderful show”, he said. The gathering was also addressed by Shri Ramesh Kumar, Airport Director and Shri Utpal Baruah, Chief Airport Officer, AGIAL.

"ATC, being the core of the safest and most efficient means of travel, remains a key element in the global transportation industry. The controllers are the most flexible and adaptable elements of the system readily able to grow with continually evolving procedures", said Shri Prabhakar Prabhat, Regional Secretary, ATC Guild (I) NER.

On the occasion, the cakes and sweets were distributed to the staff working at the LGBI Airport and to the travelling passengers.
