Assam: AJYCP stages protest in Margherita against erosion

The Margherita unit of Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chhatra Parishad ( AJYCP ) on Tuesday staged a protest at erosion site at Nadhing river in Tinsukia district of upper Assam demanding immediate and permanent solution of the problem. A long human - chain was made to protest against the erosion issue.

Many villages under Enthem Gaon Panchayat, Assam an especially Long village under Margherita subdivision are being affected as every year flood and erosions destroy many hectares of croplands, livestock and residences of the local people who are mostly dependent on farming, fishing and rearing domestic animals. The protest was led by the Tinsukia unit secretary of AJYCP Kanchan Bora. Letter the pictures of the erosion and video clips of the protest was uploaded on social media platforms for the awareness of the issue among district administration officials as well as the state government ministers including Keshab Mahanta. "We want a permanent solution to this long-running problem as soon as possible".

Kanchan Bora told the Inside NE. On the other hand, heavy rainfall in the district since last week has brought the threat to flood and erosions to the people of Baghjan, Dighaltarang, Kaliapani and Guijaan villages also. These villages' residents have been already living in 12 different relief centres after oil blow out in an oilwell rig at Baghjan, Assam. The rise in the water level of the rivers in Tinsukia district has drawn lines of worry to the villagers of Sadia, Dhola and Tengapani - Thepabari also. The deputy commissioner Bhaskar Pegu was not immediately available to react over the protest.
