Assam: AK-47s, explosives seized by Baksa Police

In Baksa, near the India-Bhutan border in Bogamati, the Baksa police has conducted investigation. This led to the recovery of 2 AK-47, 2 Pistol and lots of explosives.

As per sources, the investigation was done by secret sources. The pistols, rifles and explosives were hidden underground which were later recovered. The operation was conducted in joint with Goreshwar, Suwagpur Police Station along with Baksa Police.

In a similar case earlier, the Assam Rifles recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition near Chedima Village in Kohima District of Nagaland on July 10th, 2020.

Based on specific intelligence regarding a large cache of arms and ammunition, the troops launched an operation in the area.  During the detailed search, the troops unearthed a large cache of ammunition.   These included three 60 mm Mortar bombs, two M-60 Anti-Tank Rifle Grenades, 390 rounds of 7.62 mm Sniper,109 live rounds of 7.62 mm AK-47, 51 rounds of 7.62 mm Pistol, three Kgs of PEK (explosive) and one AK-47 magazine.

The recovered items have been handed over to North Police Station, Kohima for further investigations.

Meanwhile, at least six cadres of the Isac-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) were killed in an encounter near Nginu village at Longding district in Arunachal Pradesh in the bordering areas of Nagaland. The operation was launched jointly by the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Prades police.

The encounter took place during the army operation in the wee hours of July 11th, 2020 morning. Huge cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered.
