Guwahati, February 2, 2020:

Prominent RTI activist and anti Citizenship Amendment Act leader Akhil Gogoi, who was taken to the NIA Court in Guwahati, Assam, earlier today, signaled the need for a united andolan (movement) to ensure that the BJP party does not return to form the Government in 2021.

Gogoi, claiming that there is a "conspiracy" to lead the people astray, said that people must once against move onto the streets and intensify their protests against the CAA.

"There should not be any division among the protesters...we want a united andolan. No Assamese should become a victim of betrayal. From playgrounds, people should move to the streets and we should force the Government's hand. If we cannot force them, they will never listen to us", said Gogoi, addressing the mediapersons outside the Court.

Gogoi, who was quickly whisked away by the cops, said that the BJP Government should not be allowed to return to power in 2021. Claiming that the andolan against the CAA has weakened significantly, Gogoi alleged that the ruling dispensation is taking advantage of it.

The premier investigation agency had earlier arrested Akhil Gogoi under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) amid protests over CAA, and registered a case (no 13/2019) under section 120 (B), 124 (A), 153 (A), 153 (B) of IPC and section 18, 39 of UAPA against him.
