Assam: Amit Shah Assures 'Support' and 'Assistance' to Overcome Flood Crisis

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal talked to Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone today and briefed him in detail about the flood situation of the state.

The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that flood waters have submerged vast tracts of land in several districts of both Brahmaputra and Barak valley of the state and the administration has been geared up to tackle the situation.

Chief Minister Sonowal said that he is monitoring the prevailing flood situation personally and already interacted with all Deputy Commissioners and top officials of different departments of the districts.

He informed the Union Minister that all district administrations have been asked to remain alert and prepared to respond to the flood situation and extend all help to the affected people.

Apprising the Union Home Minister, Sonowal said that all Ministers of the state government, MPs, MLAs, panchayat and other public representatives have also been urged to guide the administrations and take part in relief and rescue measures.

Sonowal further informed that 24/7 flood control rooms have been activated and government officials are rendering required services to the marooned people. He also briefed the Union Minister about relief and rescue operations being carried out in different flood affected areas of the state and medical services provided to the flood hit.

The Chief Minister also informed the Union Minister that adequate steps have been taken to provide succour to animals of flood affected areas and fodder have been arranged for them.

The Union Home Minister during the interaction stressed on ensuring all out efforts by the state government to provide relief to the flood affected people.

He also assured to extend all support and assistance from the central government to Assam Government to prevail over the flood situation.

It may be mentioned that over 9 lakh people have been affected due to the floods in Assam, while six people have died.
