ASSAM: ANOTHER BLOW TO INSURGENCY BY ASSAM RIFLES

As a part of the continuing counter insurgency operations in the state, a strong team of Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles under DAO DIVISION launched a operation on 18 May 2018. The Assam Rifles Battalion has been carrying out extensive operations is south ALP to keep the area peaceful and out of clutches of insurgents. Keeping up the tempo of the ongoing crackdown, the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles undertook an operation and apprehended Self Style Lance Corporal Tingwang Wangsa alias Aisak of NSCN (IM). The cadre was active member of the banned outfits and was involved in enumerous heinous crimes like forcing youths for recruitment in the group and collecting extortion money and extortion activities in the area. The Assam Rifles Battalion on receiving specific input swiftly launched an operation and apprehended the cadre with weapon, ammunition and extortion notes. Post spot interrogation the cadre admitted that he is an active member of NSCN(IM) faction since Mar 2015.

The SF has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South ALP and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area. This operation has tightened the noose around the group and has brought relief to the local population.
