Assam: Artificial flood inundates several parts of Kokrajhar

The artificial flood caused by the incessant rainfall for the last few days inundated several parts of the Kokrajhar town in Western Assam.

Citizens in the town faced severe hardships due to artificial flood which seeing continue that create resented amongst the residents today. Residents demanded proper drainage system in the town to get free from artificial floods.

Several wards in the town come under the waters following incessant rain fall since two days ago in the region.

Waterlogging has brought a miserable situation amongst the citizens due to the lack of proper drainage systems in the town areas.

Several link roads in the town like JD Road, RNB road, Thanapara, Vivekananda road seeing covered with floodwaters following incessant rain all in the town.

Meanwhile, the annual flood has submerged a total of 704 villages across 16 districts in Assam, according to the daily flood report released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on June 26^th, 2020.

Tinsukia and Dhemaji in upper Assam are the worst affected districts. 136 villages in Tinsukia and 2015 in Dhemaji are reeling under the ravaging deluge. A total of 59161 people have been affected in Tinsukia while 88269 in Dhemaji so far. 53 relief camps and 47 relief distribution centres have been set up at various places of Tinsukia.

The second wave of the flood has affected a total of 2,52,661 people, 162443 animals and 11765.27 hectares of crop land have been affected across the state as on June 26^th, 2020. A total of 142 relief camps have been set up for the people.

Meanwhile, a total of 70 camps have been affected and two camps are vacated out of 183 camps in the Kaziranga National Park due to the flood as reported by the Divisional Forest Officer eastern Assam Wildlife Division.

The mighty Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neematighat in Jorhat, Dhubri and Tezpur while Burhidihing at Chenimari in Dibrugarh, Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur, Puthimari in Kamrup, Pagladiya in Nalbari, Manas in Barpeta, Beki in Barpeta and Sankosh in Dhubri are flowing above the danger level in the state.
