For 26-year-old Tazul Ali, life has changed a lot since the lockdown was enforced on March 25 initially for 21 days. Ali, who had met an accident in January this year, now sees no way than losing his right leg after being denied by police to travel to Patna, Bihar for a medical check-up.

The youth, who hails from Moromi Chowk in Goreswar, had sustained severe injuries on his right leg in the accident that took place on January 16 last at Solmari under Baihata Chariali. He was rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for medical assistance.

Later, disappointed with the treatment at the GMCH, the family members took him to Patna for better medical assistance and admitted to a hospital on March 5. On April 1, he was discharged from the hospital and reached home on April 4 by an ambulance.

“I had to travel to Patna for a check-up. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to travel since we had no permission,” Tazul said. The youth, who was en route to Patna on April 22, was not permitted to cross the Srirampur gate and compelled to return to home.

Tazul, who was a small businessman, now sees an uncertain future. “How will I run my family if I lose my one leg? I see an uncertain future now,” he added.

Requesting the government for help for the treatment of Tazul, one of the family members said, “Infection has already started. He will probably lose his right leg if we cannot take him to Patna as soon as possible.”
