Assam: Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta Chosen as DGP In-Charge

Guwahati, November 29, 2019:

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta will officiate as the DGP (In-Charge) of Assam. The term of Kuladhar Saikia, the present Assam Police DG, is ending tomorrow. Saikia's term was extended by 3 months.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta will continue as the DGP till the UPSC finalises the name of a regular DGP.

Mahanta is a 1988 Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer and is currently officiating as Special DGP (Border).

The Assam government had earlier sent the names of NK Sinha, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, KB Singh Deu, BK Mishra and Mukesh Agarwal to the UPSC for selection as the police chief of the state.
