Chief Minister Sarbananda, welcoming the duo to the BJP party, presented them with traditional Assamese 'gamusas' and scarves imprinted with the symbol of the BJP (lotus).

Welcoming the duo "Today is a crucial day for the Assam chapter for the BJP as the elections are about to be underway and two of the chief leaders of the BPF -Biswajit Daimary and Emmanuel Mosahary -- have been serving, one as a Working President and the other as a General Secretary. I welcome the duo with open arms."

Terming this development as a "good news" for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sonowal added that it has become "certain" that the party will form the Government in the BTC region. "I hope the joinings will make our party far more robust -- not only in the BTC, but all over Assam," Sonowal said.

It needs mention here that Daimary -- who has been associated with the BPF since the party's very inception -- yesterday resigned from his post as Rajya Sabha MP.

“As per provision of clause (3)(b) of Article 101 of the Constitution of India and Rule 213 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States, I hereby resign my seat/membership in the Rajya Sabha with immediate effect,” Daimary wrote in his resignation letter addressed to Venkaiah Naidu, the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

The joining of these two veterans ahead of the polls is expected to give a major boost to the BJP's chances in the polls. The saffron party shall be fielding 27 candidates in the polls, which which will see a three-cornered contest between the BJP, BPF and United People's Front Liberal (UPPL).
