Assam BJP Expresses its Dissatisfaction, Demands Nationwide NRC

Guwahati, August 31, 2019:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, on Saturday, has expressed his dissatisfaction after the publication of final draft National Register of Citizens (NRC). He further stated that the BJP party does not trust the updation process.

Ranjeet Kumar Dass also appealed to the central and the state governments to prepare a nationwide NRC.

Addressing the media here today, BJP state President said that after the final NRC, 'only' 19 lakh people have been excluded, which is significantly less in camparision to officially stated figures, earlier. He added, “We do not trust this NRC under any circumstances. We are totally unhappy with the outcome and thus, we appeal to the central and the state governments to prepare a national-level NRC.”

Dass further mentioned that the party will keep a close watch on the process of appeal in the Foreigners Tribunals (FTs) by the excluded persons and the judgments of the cases.

The long-awaited final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) has finally been published today, as per instructions issued by the Supreme Court of India.

After publication of the NRC, Prateek Hajela, the State Coordinator, NRC said, “A total of 3,11,21,004 persons have been found eligible for inclusion in final draft, leaving out 19,06,657 persons, including those who did not submit their claims.

“Those not satisfied with outcome can file appeals before the Foreigners Tribunals”, he added.
