Assam BJP hits at NSUI over attack on Zubeen Garg, demands exemplary punishment

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, while condemning the attack on heartthrob of the youngsters Zubeen Garg, said that such kind of barbaric act can be done only by mannerless organisation like the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).

“The NSUI does not have any trust in democracy. Those who lacks knowledge takes such poor way to attack the singer,” the state BJP stated in a press communique.


The party also said that the incident has once again certainly proved that a section of people deliberately engages in such act to create unrest in the state. “It was not just an attack on Zubeen Garg, but an attack on the Assamese community as a whole,” the party said while demanding exemplary punishment to the miscreants.

It needs mention that popular singer Zubeen Garg was attacked by unidentified miscreants in the wee hours of Wednesday. The incident took place near Ganeshguri at around 12.40 am while Zubeen was returning home from Red AV studio at Zoo Road Tiniali.

The singer lodged an FIR with the Dispur police in the matter. As per the FIR, a vehicle bearing registration number AS01 BY 0675 (Maurti CIAZ) had overtaken Zubeen’s vehicle at Ganesh Mandir near Ganeshguri.

“They (the miscreants) hurled abusive and made derogatory remarks against me. They had beer bottles in their hands. They used un-parliamentary words when I tried to defend myself,” Zubeen stated in the FIR.

Meanwhile, Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, has been directed to investigate the incident of attack on Zubeen Garg.
