Tinsukia, January 30, 2020:
Activists of the Tinsukia arm of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Thursday confronted Minister for Food Processing and Industries Rameswar Teli with black flags. It was as a mark to protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) move to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA.
“This would continue until the government scraps the forcefully implemented CAA on Assam. We welcomed the leaders of the BJP with black flags as a mark to protest against CAA,” said one of the AASU members on asking him about waving black flags at Teli.
He added that the same would continue with the leaders of BJP who visit Tinsukia district.
It may be mentioned here that Assam State Minister of Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ramakanta Deuri were shown black flags in Morigaon district on Wednesday.
The activists of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Morigaon wing, protested against the BJP-ruled state government and their moves, especially the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA.
It may be mentioned here that AASU activists have been protesting against the CAA. The display of black flags is also a way to express the resentment against the BJP government’s push to go ahead with the CAA despite widespread protests.
Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests have been going on in various pockets of Assam. AASU has been spearheading the agitation in the northeastern state.
