GUWAHATI:  Assam BJP President Bhabesh Kalita has reportedly urged the people of Assam  to not light too many diyas as the price of edible oil and other items are soaring high in the state.

"The price change of an item won't matter if you are not using it", he added as stated reportedly.

His statement has come at a time when the state as well as the nation is mulling for green Diwali and avoiding Chinese products for celebrations.

Lighting an earthen lamp is the quintessential part of celebrating Diwali. The tradition has been in existence since ages. As such, the BJP President's statement seems to be a negation of the age old tradition and and promotion of artificial decorations.

A day ahead the announcements of results of By polls, Kalita has stated that BJP is sure to win the 5 seats.

"We scored 5 goals. But the opponent's goalkeeper wasn't there. So, it wasn't fun", he added.

Reportedly, Kalita has also stated that Akhil Gogoi's Raijor Dal will not find a place even in the second position.

He further anticipated that BJP will win with substantial amount of votes in Bhawanipur and Tamulpur.

The polling is took place in Gossaigaon, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Mariani and Thowra assembly segments, with strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

MLAs Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain resigned from the Congress. While Phanidhar Talukdar left AIUDF and is now fighting on BJP ticket.

The state witnessed several shuffles from Congress to the saffron fold in the recent times.

While speaking on polls, Rupjyoti Kurmi, who joined BJP sometime back, anticipated that after joining the ruling party some of his enemies might have turned into well-wishers for the decision he took.
