JORHAT: In a yet another shocking incident, a 17-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide a day before results of Class X board results were announced.

Uttam Malakar a student of Jorhat  hanged himself in his house in Jorhat Bahumukhi Balak Vidyalaya on Thursday. The results of the class 10 board were announced on Friday.

After the results were announced, it was revealed that the student failed in his board examination as he had earlier failed in his 9th final examination.

The Assam government introduced 40:40:20 formula for evaluating class 10 results where 40 per cent marks will be derived from Class 9 annual exam, 40 per cent marks from Class 10 exams and the remaining 20 per cent marks will be awarded to students by schools.

Hence, the boy's failure in 9th standard automatically impacted his board results.

Reportedly, the boy didn't tell his family about his results of his 9th board and his parents got to know about it only after his board results were announced. His family didn't suspect anything earlier as classes remained cancelled due to the pandemic.

Although the actual reason of behind the act has not been confirmed yet, Police as well as the family suspect that it is the fear of failure.

The deceased and his family were residing in a rented house in Attilagaon area of Jorhat.
