Assam Boat Tragedy: Owner of 'Maa Kamala' ferry arrested from Dibrugarh

GUWAHATI: The owner of Maa Kamala ferry, the boat capsized in a tragic accident on Wednesday after colliding with another ferry, named Paniram Kalita was arrested by the Assam Police today.

So far the Assam Police have nabbed 10 people including Paniram Kalita's son.

Reportedly, an FIR was filed against Paniram Kalita in Jorhat and he was picked up from Dibrugarh today. Kalita was under treatment at a private hospital in Dibrugarh when Jorhat and Dibrugarh Police arrested him in a joint operation.

Kalita's name is allegedly involved in ferry related syndicates as well.

Kalita is being brought to Jorhat from Dibrugarh as reported.

In the Brahmaputra boat capsize incident two people have lost their lives and one is still missing out of 92 passengers on board.

A high-level investigation is underway.
