Assam: Bodo students’ body demands provincialisation of venture schools

The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Assam has demanded provincialisation of all venture schools of the state including Bodo medium schools in and outside the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) through the New Education Policy-2020 in the state.

Addressing a press conference at Bodofa House today in Kokrajhar, Assistant General Secretary of ABSU Khwrwmdao Wary said that several hundred schools are still remaining venture schools across the state including the BTAD region.

He further demanded of provincialisation of all venture schools including Bodo medium background in and outside the BTAD region through the New Education Policy-2020 in the state. There are 1021 venture schools (LP 711, UP 235, High school 75), senior college 25, Degree College 21 in the BTAD region and 245 schools are venture in outside BTAD (LP148, UP 62, High School 35), he added.

Besides, Khwrwmdao said that ABSU urged the state government and education minister to solve the issues of the educational related matters through the spirit of 6.3 clause of the BTR accord signed on 27th January (2020).

He also put demand to the government to make properly distribution of textbooks on time to pave way good educational services.

Assam Education Minister On August 1st, 2020, announced to provicialise 197 High School, 9 Higher Secondary and 149 Junior College or Senior Secondary under Directorate of Secondary Education with effect from January 1st, 2021. The first List of such schools will be out on August 15th, 2020.

The Minister further added that the first list includes 355 high schools, junior colleges, 3359 teachers under directorate of senior secondary, 30 colleges, 931 college teachers including left over teachers.
