GUWAHATI: Rift in opposition-led grand-alliance has become a stale story now as the same has seemed to contaminated the ruling NDA alliance on account of fight over powerplay as well.

Emmanuel Mosahary, former Bodoland People's Front (BPF) MLA from Tamulpur constituency, who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on November 22 last year in Kumarikata with MP of Rajya Sabha Biswajit Daimary, has written a letter to NDA Chairperson Amit Shah dated on September 9 demanding to field BJP candidates for the Tamulpur and Gossaingaon constituency in the upcoming by-election.

Mosahary, in his letter to Shah, has accused BJP's ally party United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) leaders and workers of misbehaviour towards BJP workers and also called the alliance between them "unholy".

"We feel that this alliance with UPPL is an unholy alliance, as it is one-sided and UPPL has not kept any of their promises," said Mosahary.

Mosahary also accused that the UPPL could win in the last assembly polls due to the votes received from the BJP supporters and the party is currently struggling to survive and their core supporters were not happy as well.

Though MOsahary resigned as a BPF MLA from the Tamulpur constituency, he was denied a ticket for the same after joining BJP as the constituency was reserved for UPPL. The constituency is lying vacant after UPPL MLA Leho Ram Boro's death and is to undergo by-polls very soon.

Since a UPPL candidate had won from there in the last assembly polls, the BJP has decided to let a UPPL candidate contest for this time in the by-election as well.

"The karyakartas (of BJP) in Baksa, as well as BTR, are losing enthusiasm and interest for the reason that in spite of large base of supporters, BJP is working as second fiddle to a regional party with dwindling support among the masses," Mosahary opined.

It was also added that the BJP workers are being treated as 2nd class citizens by UPPL and if not addressed soon then the workers might leave BJP soon.

Mosahary alleged further, "Many flagship schemes and trump cards like Orunodai and PM Kissan etc are being kept away from party karyakartas and supporters."

"BJP tide is there in BTR at present and it is a must to project candidates from both Tamulpur and Gossaigaon LAC in the upcoming by0-election to be taken seriously. If BJP misses this opportunity, people of BTR will conclude that the party is taking people of this region for granted by not giving them a democratic opportunity to choose BJP candidate in the ballot," Mosahary added further.

Currently, the BJP has 60 seats in the Assam Legislative Assembly and at least five constituencies will undergo by-elections very soon. BJP is likely to field candidates in the constituencies of Mariani, Majuli and Thowra and for Gossaingaon and Tamulpur they have given to UPPL.

As Assam has a total number of 126 constituencies in the legislative assembly, if BJP crosses the magic number of 64 alone after this by-election then it will become the only dominating political party in the house and will be able to free themselves from the alliance, with UPPL and Asom Gana Parishad, if wanted.
