GUWAHATI: The Assam cabinet today gave its approval to creation of an administrative staff college in Bodoland Territorial Region and a new department for welfare of Bodoland.
The existing hill areas development department will continue to function.
The cabinet chaired by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal also approved of regularisation of services of 580 high school teachers with effect from the date of joining in 2001. Further the cabinet gave its nod to the service condition of 101 vocational teachers in 57 schools and give pay in time scale of Rs 28,748 per month.
The contractual employees who rendered at least 10 years of service in the panchayat and rural development department would get service extension up to 60 years. The minister concerned will be asked to submit a report in this regard.
The cabinet also gave approval in principle to regularise the services of Assam State Disaster Management Authority employees by observing the formalities.
Rules were also framed for service conditions of eligibility for chairman, member secretary and members of Assam Pollution Control Board.
The cabinet proposed to constitute a one-man committee under principal secretary JB Ekka to implement uniform wage of small tea workers. The daily wage of tea workers has also been increased from Rs 167 to Rs 217.
The tea workers were demanding the hike to Rs 351 per day and the Congress has promised Rs 365 if voted to power.
The meeting also gave its nod to proposed amendment of Guwahati Master Plan 2025 in three places — North Guwahati, Uzanbazar and Bharalumukh.
It was also proposed for promulgation of an ordinance towards amendment to Assam Municipal Board Act to provide for 18 months (in place of 12 months) for conducting elections.
The cabinet further gave its approval to allotment of 239 bigha of land to Srimanta Sankaradeva University at Hatichung Nagaon, subject to de-reservation procedure of village grazing reserve, another one katha land to Deepak Sangha at Ulubari Mouza of Guwahati and a plot of 10 bigha to World Renewal Spiritual Trust in North Guwahati revenue circle of Kamrup district.
The cabinet also approved purchase of 8000 wheel chairs for use during the assembly elections and other uses thereafter.
