Assam Cabinet asks Finance Minister to monitor Jorhat-Majuli bridge construction

DISPUR: Assam's Cabinet met today to deliberate on a plethora of important matters against the backdrop of the ferry tragedy in Jorhat that has left at least one dead.

The Cabinet decreed that Additional chief secretary Maninder Singh shall conduct inquiry into the incident and submit a report within one month.

At the same time, the Jorhat police has been directed to file a criminal case against those responsible.

In regards to the long-awaited Jorhat-Majuli bridge, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog shall monitor the construction -- the state government shall provide additional support.

At the same time, the Cabinet decided that the government shall stop operations against Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) for one month after its 6-month unilateral ceasefire declared on September 7.

In regards to forest department royalty, royalty payable to forest department for using construction materials like sand, stones is to be deducted from contractors' bills & submitted in treasury

(for government construction works).

Fixed royalty is to be paid in four instalments at treasury (for private construction in urban areas).

The Cabinet has ordered for reservation to be increased from 3% to 4% for specially-abled candidates in government jobs.

At the same time, degrees, diplomas issued by government-approved distance learning institutes shall be considered at par with on-campus courses for government jobs.

Police verification will not be required for appointees to state government jobs. Notarized affidavits have to be uploaded on a portal.

Moreover, an Assam State Organic Mission Agency (ASOMA) is to be constituted. Mission Organic Value Chain Development, Assam and National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM), Assam is to work under ASOMA.
