Assam CM says 'squatters' will be evicted from all parts of the state

GUWAHATI: Assam'S chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday inspected the alleged encroachment in the riverine areas of Sipajhar under Darrang district. Visiting the area, CM Sarma said squatters would be evicted in all the parts of Assam.

“120 bigha land of the temple under encroachment of illegal occupants in the area have been freed by Assam police  and district administration. Such squatters would be evicted from all parts of Assam to protect our land and the Assamese identity from encroachers & intruders,” Sarma tweeted.

He was accompanied by minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Sipajhar MLA Paramananda Rajbongshi and former Mangaldoi MLA Gurujyoti Das.

The chief minister travelled by a country boat to reach Gorukhuti near Dhalpur Shiva temple.

Biswa Sarma also offered prayers at the Dholpur Shiva Mandir at Sipajhar and said that efforts would be made to turn the temple into a tourist spot.
