Guwahati, March 11, 2020:

Veteran Journalist Ajit Bhuyan has come under sharp criticism following his candidature for the Rajya Sabha polls with the support of Assam Congress and AIUDF.

After North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma slammed Bhuyan for his interest in contesting for the Rajya Sabha seat, Convenor of the Prabajan Virodhi Manch and senior Advocate Upamanyu Hazarika called Bhuyan's move as "extreme hypocrisy."

"...When he (Ajit Bhuyan) dresses up his candidature as being representative of the sentiments and interests of the indigenous people, it turns into extreme hypocrisy as his candidature is sponsored by the Congress and the AIUDF," he said.

Hazarika further alleged that the senior Journalist "cleverly sought to dress up his candidature in the garb of representing anti-CAA forces, but if CAA is opposed by the indigenous people as thrusting more foreigners upon the State equally the AIUDF, which represents Bangladeshi migrant Muslims along with the Congress is antithetical and opposed to indigenous interests."

The Prabajan Virodhi Manch Convenor lashed out at Congress and AIUDF calling them as parties who work for "Bangladeshi/immigrant interests". "In this situation, for Shri Bhuyan to profess that he is representing indigenous interests and sentiments is hypocritical and self-serving," he added.
