GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Monday has declared to break ties with All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) from the Grand Alliance. AIUDF allied with the Congress party right before the Assembly polls held in March to give a united fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party.

This decision was taken in a meeting of the core committee of the party held on Monday.

“The committee has observed that Mahajot alliance partner AIUDF's behavior and attitude in relation to BJP party has baffled the members of the Congress party. The AIUDF leadership's and senior members' continuous and mysterious praise of the BJP party and the Chief Minister has affected the public perception of the Congress party.  In this connection after a long discussion the Core Committee members of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee unanimously decided that AIUDF can no longer remain an alliance partner of Mahajot and in this regards will send intimation to AICC,” reads a statement issued by Assam Congress.

It has also stated that as the Bodoland People’s Front  (BPF), another ally of Congress has expressed unwillingness to carry on with the Grand Alliance, the party is asked to take a decision on this and intimate the high command.

“In today's meeting the discussion was also held with regard to the alliance with BPF. Since BPF had already expressed their unwillingness in various forums to remain in the Mahajot therefore the President APCC has been given full authority to take decision on this matter and intimate the High Command.”

However the party has not decided anything on bringing Akhil Gogoi led Raijor Dal under the umbrella of Grand Alliance even though party President Bhupen Bora has hinted on few occasions of possibly roping in the party to fight against BJP.
