Assam Congress launches special membership drive covering entire state

GUWAHATI: Rana Goswami, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC)'s working President on Monday inaugurated a special Membership drive covering the entire state.

The inauguration programme was held at Rajiv Bhawan, Guwahati, Assam in presence of Debabrata Saikia.

Addressing the press conference at the venue, Goswami said this special membership drive was part of a nationwide exercise by the Congress.

“The drive will be carried out right at the grassroots level and a special committee will monitor the process at the state level,” he said.

Goswami urged the existing members to renew their membership as the party will be conducting its organisational elections next year and a valid membership will be mandatory for those aspiring for any official position.

“The new enrolment facility will be available online also, and a new website of the state unit of the party will be launched soon,” the APCC working president said.

With the renewal of his membership, Saikia begins membership drive in presence of a host of senior Congress leaders including Hiranya Borah, Kamrul Islam Choudhury, President, APYC, Abu Saleh Nazmuddin, Ex-Minister among others.

Earlier, Rana Goswami said that the APCC targets to enrol more than 33 lakh members during the drive.

The program was conducted by Partha Pratim Bora, State Co-ordinator of the Membership drive program.
