GUWAHATI: Fearing horse-trading, just few days ahead of the result of the Assam assembly elections, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has shifted 40 contesting candidates to Dichang Resort in Sonapur on the outskirts of Guwahati.

Rupjyoti Kurmi, Siddique Ahmed and Wajed Ali Choudhury are among those who have been shifted to the resort.

According to the party, the candidates and other leaders have gathered at Dichang Resort for an orientation camp starting today and will continue till April 28.

The Congress candidates are being shifted to the resort due to the BJP's alleged past horse trading tactics in other states.

The BJP may try to poach MLAs before the results are announced on May 2, for which the candidates have been shifted to the resort, a party source said.

The candidates are said to have entered the resort through Gate No 4.

Meanwhile, upon arrival at the resort, Rupjyoti Kurmi said their main goal was to save the party.

Noticeably, another Mahajath partner, the Bodoland People's Front (BPF),  has reportedly shifted its contesting candidates from Assam to Bastar in Chhattisgarh anticipating BJP’s poaching.
