GUWAHATI: Riyan Parag, the 19-year-old  is an Indian cricketer who plays for the team 'Rajasthan Royals' in the Indian Premier League (IPL) said, “IPL is a great opportunity for me to fulfil my India ambitions."

Riyan Parag, the right-handed batsman is one of the youngest players in the Rajasthan Royals’ squad.

During the first phase of the IPL earlier this year, the Under-19 World Cup winner could not put in extraordinary performances but he is currently working hard to improve further and deliver once action resumes in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

"I thought my performance in the first half of the IPL was adequate, but I could have done better in terms of winning more matches for the Rajasthan Royals. But I am not going to be too harsh on myself, because I believe in my abilities, and through rigorous training, I’m pretty sure I will be able to make a difference in the UAE. The tournament also presents me with the chance to perform to the best of my abilities and make a case for the senior national team," Riyan who is currently at home, Guwahati stated.

Talking about the areas where he feels he needs to improve and build, Riyan stated that preparing himself to “consistently hit sixes” is his main goal during the off-season.

"The other aspect of my game is bowling in difficult situations, and I have tried to make sure that I am practicing new variations that I want to be consistent with and be able to bowl under pressure, as well as perfecting the ones I already had," he added.

The right-handed batsman further said, "I am always striving to be fitter than what I was. Hence, the time I spent in Nagpur really helped - we trained under the sun and it was really intense and nice. And even when I’m back home, I don’t miss a day of training. I make sure to cover everything cricket-related, and regularly have some extra sessions of sprints, agility, cross-fit, strength, and weightlifting.”

He also said that he is willing to put in a lot of effort to ensure his fitness levels are high, which he believes will help him field, bat, and bowl better, and may lead him becoming an international player for India.”

Speaking of his and his team’s ambitions for the resumption of the IPL, Riyan said, “I think we have a really good shot at making it to the playoffs. We’re placed number fifth on the table, and we’ve got seven more matches to play. Plus, we know the conditions in UAE really well from last season.”

“I believe we can improve a lot in various departments, and with a good team balance and combination on and off the field, I think we’ll have a really good shot of qualifying for the playoffs first, and then, of course, winning the title."

He has been an integral part of the team Rajasthan Royals's set-up since making his debut in the IPL 2019 season.
