Assam crosses 2 lakh tests, Ghy declared critical, hints lockdown

The corona pandemic has rattled the world as well as the state. Amid the rising covid19 cases, things seem to have calmed down. So far, the recovery rate has risen to 49.9%. Hojai has the highest cases in the state followed by Dhubri in Assam.

To take stock of the situation, state Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma made key announcements

So far, 1,73,493 returnees have come back to the state. Out of that, 65, 156 by train and 68,630 by air and about 39000 by road. 26156 have people gone out of Assam. There are also 67,000 other NE people who entered the state. These travels have been facilitated by 124 rail and over 492 flights of which, 358 are from Guwahati and 52 from Dibrugarh and 39 in Silchar.

The state has conducted 2,01,503 tests, per million tests done more than many other states. Further, 11 labs test all over Assam. On Monday, new test lab will come up.

Guwahati

Guwahati's situation is critical with 25 independent patients in the last few days with no travel history. Going forward, zones will be converted into - quarantine and similarly in Tinsukia areas where loading, unloading happens after preliminary observation. 50,000 samples from only Guwahati will be taken.

To avoid hampering the economy, there will not be direct lockdown. But, if 500 cases are found positive, then lockdown and identification will be done after surveillance.

Other measures

The per-day flight should not be more than 25. In coming weeks, more cases will come and has instructed to not panic. 17 trains will come from Kerela - 2 from Bangalore.

The stigma associated with corona deceased on cremation needs to remove as the fire kills the virus.

So far, Rs 24 cr hotel bill for quarantine and Rs 2000 has been supplied to outside people with a total of Rs 153 crore.
