Guwahati, January 12, 2020:

Assam daughter Rachna Nath has been awarded the ‘Global Innovation Award’ by Turnitin, a world-renowned company providing plagiarism detection services, for the year 2019 for entire North America and Canada.

Nath, who is currently working as Stem Co-Ordinator & Science Teacher at Arizona College Prep in Erie Campus of the United States, was also awarded the Honorable mention award for Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators for the Year 2019.

Speaking with Inside Northeast, Rachna expressed, “I am extremely humbled and honored to be awarded the Global Innovator award and I will strive towards continuing my work and making more progress with my students in the research field involving critical thinking and Innovation.”

Meanwhile, the official website of Turnitin quoted, “Beginning in 9th grade, Rachna utilizes PeerMark as an integral part of the revision process, anonymizing the assignments and instructing students on how to effectively grade and give feedback to their peers. Because Rachna’s classes are project-based and research-heavy, Turnitin also plays a central role in ensuring originality when Rachna teaches grant-writing and the patent process to her students.”

Born to Akshay Majumdar and Rekha Majumdar of Guwahati’s Dispur, Rachna is the eldest of three siblings who has been an environmental advocate and innovator since her childhood.

After moving to Phoenix, Arizona in 2003, she joined Arizona College Prep-Erie. She continued working to enrich her student's critical thinking and problem-solving skills through the use of research-based, place-based and claim-based evidence and reasoning methods.

The Assam daughter incorporates unique strategies to engage her students, creating innovative ways for students to share their knowledge with peers, such as writing poetry, songs and podcasts, participating in hands-on activities and field trips.

Rachna’s students are working with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality to increase awareness about Volatile Organic Substances (VOC’s) and to develop a reusable, organic, VOC-free air freshener.

The students also organize e-waste collection events and she is also developing a product to prevent swarming of Bees using household herbs and spices. The young Assamese talent has a patent-pending for the same. She is also working on projects involving Styrofoam management within her school and other environmental issues.

Rachna is continuously seeking sponsors and funding for her student’s environmental sustainability projects. She has secured several grants including the Society for Science and the Public and Flinn Foundation grant to build a Biophysics pipeline to Arizona State University.

Apart from that, mother of two- Jyotishman Nath and Diya Nath, Rachna is a train Odissi dancer who has presented the dance form at popular stages of Arizona. She is also running Sangeeta Nritya Academy, a dance school to teach her dance form to the interested students in there.
