The KMSS protest for the release of Akhil Gogoi has reached the capital of Assam. In Silphukhuri, people in big numbers started protesting for the peasant leaders and the revoke of CAA.

The protesters were later taken into Panbazar Police Station on the violation of 144 section. "Today they held a KMSS program but without any permission. Hence they were taken into the police station".

The protesters in return shouted slogans. "You have to free Akhil Gogoi, this is a political conspiracy. We want the BJP to stop this".

Earlier, in parts of Assam, including Moran, Sibsagar, various groups protested for the release of Akhil Gogoi and for revoking of Citizenship Amendment Act.

“We demand Akhil Gogoi’s release but police have arrested us. Along with that, CAA should be nullified. We have protested maintaining COVID-19 restrictions. Akhil Gogoi should be returned back in full health”, said one of the protester.

Another protest leader asked, “Delhi-Bengal higher-ups are being brought to attain Gogoi’s case. Are you trying to bring COVID-19 to the judiciary?”.

KMSS members later got arrested and were sent to Sibsagar Police Station. The protest revealed that even the corona pandemic has not been able to stop the agitation. The protesters criticise the Sonowal BJP govt.

Akhil Gogoi was arrested on 12th Dec 2019, from Jorhat, sent to NIA custody for 10 days in Delhi, and taken back and lodged in Guwahati Central Jail since 26th Dec. KMSS Secretary Dhaijya Konwar and Bittu Sonowal, President of Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti, a popular democratic student org in Assam, were arrested on 13th Dec and lodged in Guwahati Central Jail. On 7th Jan, both of them were tagged in the same fake UAPA case with Akhil Gogoi and are currently in NIA custody in Kamrup district. Manas Konwar was arrested on 13th Dec, released later and re-arrested from NIA Court, Guwahati, Assam towards the end of January 2020 being slapped with similar charges under UAPA. Earlier, the NIA failed to file a charge sheet within the mandatory 90 days, which warranted Akhil’s release but he was immediately arrested for other cases.
