Assam: Dibrugarh Bans Entry & Exit of All Vegetable Carriers with Immediate Effect

Dibrugarh, April 1, 2020:

Dibrugarh has banned the entry and exit of all vegetable carriers to and from the Assam district with immediate effect.

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh district has issued an official order, which strictly restricts the entry of all the vegetable carriers from other districts into Dibrugarh and exit of all vegetable carriers from Dibrugarh to outside the district have been banned with immediate effect until further orders.

The Order has been issued by the Additional District Magistrate, Ranjit Konwar in exercise of the power conferred upon under section 144 -- "Public Health Hazard".

"Entry of all vegetable carriers from other district and exit of all vegetable carriers from the Dibrugarh district to outside the district are hereby banned until further order," read the statement, adding, "Any violation of this order will invite punitive action under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code."

It may be mentioned here that Assam is now taking extra preventive measures to help contain the virus, which has affected five people in the State already.

Amid the nationwide lockdown in effect, the state is witnessing movements only for purchase and delivery of essential items.

Assam Health & Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today cautioned the citizens of the State to stay alert and said that soon positive COVID-19 cases will increase from five to double-digit number.

Addressing a press conference here in Guwahati, Sarma said, “This number will increase by evening as we are testing more samples. It is almost sure that Assam’s positive cases will rise after the test results are declared.”

After a man named Jamaaluddin from Karimganj tested positive on Tuesday, four more positive cases were confirmed till the filing of this report.

Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the names – Mohammad Arshad Ali (19) from Nalbari, Mohammad Hazrat Ali (60) from Jagiroad, Mohammad Nuruddin (55) and Mohammad Junab Al (46) from Jagiroad.

The Minister urged all of the ones who have come into direct or indirect contact with the five positive persons, to report to the Government so that the the required screening and testing are carried out.

Meanwhile India has seen a sharp spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the country. Currently, 1,637 people are said to be affected by coronavirus in India. 45 people have died so far due to the disease. 10 new deaths and 240 new positive cases have been reported till the filing of this report.
