Assam disburses funds to highest ineligible farmers in country; Northeastern states account Rs 560 cr alone

GUWAHATI: A total of Rs. 5,603,753,800 crore has been disbursed to ineligible farmers of eight northeastern states by the Indian Government under the PM Kisan scheme, of which, Assam tops the list with Rs. 554,017,2000 crore.

Assam tops the list:

Assam allocated the amount to as many as 8,35,268 ineligible farmers which is the highest in the country.

Arunachal Pradesh has disbursed Rs. 11.88 lakh to 136 ineligible farmers.

Likewise, Manipur disbursed Rs. 4.27 crore to 18,272 ineligible farmers, Meghalaya disbursed Rs. 45.1 lakh to 493 ineligible farmers, Mizoram disbursed Rs. 15.38 lakh to 432 ineligible farmers, Nagaland disbursed Rs 45.08 lakh to 524 ineligible farmers, Sikkim paid Rs. 10,000 to one person and Tripura disbursed Rs. 1.01 crore to 1052 ineligible farmers.

This was revealed by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday during the ongoing Parliament Monsoon Session.

“The responsibility of identifying the landholder farmer families eligible for benefit under the scheme is that of respective states/UTs government,” said Tomar in Lok Sabha while delivering the data.

As many as 42,16,643 ineligible farmers across the nation received Rs. 29,92,75,16,000 from the Government nation-wide.

Assam detected the highest number of such cases followed by Tamil Nadu (7.2), Punjab (5.6 lakh), Maharashtra (4.4 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (2.6 lakh) etc.

Tomar has also informed the House that the money is now being recovered from those farmers.
