Assam Doctor Assault Case: 2 more apprehended in Lanka, 26 arrested so far

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police has apprehended two more accused in connection with the physical assault case of Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati at Udali Covid Care Centre following a patient's death.

They arrested two have been identified by Imdadur Rahman and Nur Hussain. The Lanka Police arrested them last night.

As of now, as many as 26 persons have been nabbed by police in the connection with the doctor assault case.

Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati was brutally assaulted by some attendants of a COVID patient who passed away at Udali Model Hospital.

Narrating the incident Dr. Senapati said, “At about 2 PM, some attendants started complaining that their patient had not urinated since morning. When I rushed to check I realized that the patient had already died. Then they started attacking me and the other staff of the hospital. They even destroyed hospital property. I and my colleagues ran inside the wards to save ourselves. However, they forcefully entered and started beating me."

When the video of his brutal physical assault by a group of people gone viral it embarked outrage across the state.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered an immediate probe into the matter and 24 apprehended and identified in less than 24 hours.

Assam Director General of Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta also visited the spot to take stock and assured that the case will proceed as fast track court.
