Assam Down Town University offers free admission in various disciplines

In a bid to give a relief to the guardians amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the Assam Down Town University has announced free admission against 250 seats.

“Despite any economic hardships, we believe that no child should be deprived of professional higher education. Total scholarships offered now will be to the tune of almost Rs. 6.5 crores,” the varsity stated.

The chairman further added that the objective is to find deserving candidates who otherwise may not be able to get a professional, employment-oriented quality education due to their economic shortcomings.  The admission will be offered in various disciplines including Engineering & Technology, Paramedical Science, Science, Commerce Management, Humanities & Social Science, Diploma After 12 and Diploma After 10 free of cost in the Assam Down Town University.

The Down Town charity trust was set up by the Down Town Hospital Group in 1997, with an aim to work for the people of the region. It has two primary missions –  to improve the overall healthcare facilities in the region and make affordable healthcare reach every section of the society and to improve the infrastructure for human resource development in the region.

Over the last 20 years the trust has been tirelessly striving to achieve these objectives. It has organized numerous health camps and programs like the Smile Train program. Over the years it has successfully treated thousands of patients from the State and the neighboring region at minimal costs. Keeping in line with its second objective the trust has been successful in setting up the largest private university in the region offering over 55 employment oriented degree and diploma courses. We are happy to say that today almost 7000 students are undertaking their studies at our campus with world class facilities and faculties and a reasonable fee structure.

Since its inception, the University has set up the largest scholarship program in the North East Region. The idea is that the economic issues should not come in the way of education. The trust has set aside about 100 seats every year to be allocated with a 100% course fee waiver every year since 2010. These seats will be allocated to meritorious students from the socially or economically backward families of the region.
