GUWAHATI: A teacher sustained injuries when Assam education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's vehicle hit her while she along with some others tried to lay siege in front of his motorcade here this afternoon.

The motorcade, however, sped away without stopping to assess the condition of the woman who fell down to the ground.

The minister was on his way back from a ceremonial handover of appointment letters to 4511 newly recruited teachers from across the state. Police rushed her to a nearby hospital.

On her way to hospital the teacher, identified as Dipa Payeng of Jonai in Lakhimpur district, told newspersons that she had approached the minister’s vehicle to ask why her name did not figure in the list of teachers whose jobs were being regularised as part of a government initiative to recruit and regularize jobs of 30,000 teachers in the state.

“We were not invited to this programme. I have been serving as a school teacher since 2001. However, we have never been informed about any initiative to regularise our jobs. I just wanted to apprise the minister about the plight of a lot of us like me and to know if we stand a chance to be regularised in the future,” Payeng said. She was accompanied by some more teachers.

Meanwhile, handing over appointment letters, Sarma today said the government would better the record of appointing 25,000 TET teachers in 2013 by handing over appointment letters to 30,000 candidates on February 5 here.

He, however, said the jobs were provisional and will be regularised only after three months  on the basis of performance.
