Assam: Eight arrested into Ultapani forest office vandalization case

Police in Kokrajhar has apprehended eight persons who were involved with Ultapani forest office stormed and vandalized on Monday which had left massive damaged and loss of properties in the mob vandalization.


Hundreds of mobs from No.2 Ultapani village attacked and vandalized the office of Ultapani forest range after detaining of two timber smuggling mafias on Sunday night and later duo were allowed to go to their homes after a zimma agreement with village headman and villagers on Monday morning.


Later in the afternoon around 12.30 pm, a large number of mobs come to the forest office and at-randomly attacked and massive vandalization belonging to the forest office.


Several properties and important official documents including four vehicles,two Scooties,lighting generators,official table chair,bicycles were damaged in the vandalization incident. Moreover,ranger of the Ultapani forest range office Hemanta Mushahary and staff had to flee from the spot to safe their life.

Police starred it’s investigation into incident and accordingly arrested eight persons just after an FIR was lodged with police into incident. The case registered with police,csse no.453/20,under section 143/447/448/353/336/427/379 IPC.

The apprehended persons were hailed from No.2 Ultapani village in Kokrajhar district. Arrested were identified as Betal Basumatary(19),Jarang Narzary(26),Manoj Basumatary(35),Bisinta Basumatary(33),Ranjit Basumatary(36),Birsen Basumatary(25),Ranbir Basumatary(35) and Ramesh Tirky(34) of No.2 Ultapani village.


Ranger Hemanta Mushahary said that the mobs attacked the forest office that left massive damaged of properties.He said that he has filed an FIR with police in this regard.


Meanwhile,Assam Social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma expresses serious concern over the Ultapani forest office vandalization.
Brahma has urged concern department to check with details how it was occured on Monday. Minister Brahma has opined for deep reforestation in the region.
