Assam Elections 2021: 62.09% Voter Turnout At 3 PM

GUWAHATI: Assam has recorded a voter turnout of 62.09% till 3 pm on Saturday in its first phase of polling, as per the Election Commission data.

Meanwhile, the voter turnout in West Bengal, has been recorded at a slightly higher 70.17%.

In Assam, the BJP is hoping to win a second straight term, with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal the biggest name on the ballot today.

In 2016, the Trinamool swept 26 of the 30 seats on offer today.

In Assam, the BJP won 35 of the 47 seats which are on offer today.

Polling booths opened at 7 with long queues of voters waiting to cast their votes and will close at 6 pm as. The polling has been extended by an hour due to the Covid pandemic.

The results in both the states will be declared on May 2.

The high-stakes battle for Bengal begins has begun today where 30 constituencies are up for grabs for the ruling Trinamool Congress, an emerging BJP, and the Congress-Left-ISF alliance.
