Moran, September 5, 2019:

Staff members of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) were thrashed by a mob of twenty in Assam’s Moran.

The mob had also vandalised the APDCL office, thereby damaging property.

The incident followed after the death of a worker who was on duty. It is to be noted that the worker, identified as Shantanu Saikia (26) was fixing the electric wires attached to a post. In an unfortunate incident, Saikia fell off when the post broke down.

The worker died in the incident. This sparked an outrage among locals and they vandalized APDCL’s office. Deputy Manager, APDCL Moran, Deepak Swargiary and two other staff members namely, Rubul Rajkhowa and Mantu Bora were beaten up by the mob of 20.

Speaking on the lines of the incident, Superintendent of Police, Moran Anand Mishra said that the ones who had taken law into their hands would not be spared.

He said, “We have arrested 19 people in this connection. People have to understand that there is a system. We live in a democracy and we have to maintain law and order. We from civil administration system work very hard to maintain everything by being available 24 hours. We also have been quick with our actions.”

The apprehended have been booked under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 322 (prevention and protection of public property).

The SP added that people should behave like responsible citizens and called for a peaceful living atmosphere.
