Keeping in view the inconvenience faced by the people during the lockdown period, the Assam government has decided to extend the validity of the transport documents to July 31st, 2020. The decision has been taken after a detailed discussion of state Transport and Commerce and Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary with the officials of the department.

“The decision has been taken to give a relief to the people of the state especially related to the transport sector since the lockdown has adversely affected the people,” Patowary said.

Accordingly, the transport department has issued an order to extend the validity of registration, license, permits etc. till July 31st, 2020. The late payment or fine for delay of renewal of such documents have also been waived off. This order is in compliance of the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, Government of India.

In addition, State Government has also waived the compounding fees or fine for delay in payment of Commercial Tax of both the categories of passenger vehicles and goods vehicles till July 31st, 2020 in the larger interest of the public.

It may be mentioned that the Unlock 1.0 has begun today after a prolonged lockdown enforced to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the country. the first phase of the nationwide lockdown enforced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 25th, 2020 initially for 21 days, which was later extended.

Meanwhile, Assam has registered 1384 confirmed COVID-19 cases and claimed four lives so far. Of the 1384 positive cases, 1192 are active in the state. Assam is followed by Tripura with 318 cases, Manipur with 71 cases, Nagaland with 43 cases and Meghalaya with 27 confirmed coronavirus cases.

Meanwhile, Mizoram, which has no active coronavirus case, has extended the lockdown to June 30th, 2020. It is the only state in the Northeast, which has extended the lockdown to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.
